Samsung Galaxy S III Could Be 2012 London Olympics Phone

Samsung is having a big press event announcement on May 3rd and tech rumors are saying that it could be the official launching of the new Samsung Galaxy S III - while the name is still unofficial, it is expected that the smartphone company will be releasing the next generation of the phone series.

In relation to that, many are also expecting an announcement that Samsung will most likely be the official mobile phone partner of the 2012 London Olympic Games. But all these are still unconfirmed, along with the possible new specifications and features of the upcoming smartphone.

According to tech analysts, it's most likely that the Galaxy S III will be almost identical to the S II with improved internal specs such as a faster processor. Some even say that Samsung could do an "Apple" which released an iPhone 4S which didn't really differ much from the iPhone 4.

Regardless of what the next Samsung Galaxy evolution will be, we're certain that this model will be the top of the line Android phone in the market once released.

Australia fired up for top-5 London Olympics finish

Australia's Olympic team chief on Wednesday said that he was confident of a top-five finish in London despite a renewed threat from the hosts, Japan, Germany and France.
With 100 days to go till the showpiece event, Australia know they face a battle to claim a place among the world's elite Olympic nations with the country set to send its smallest Games team in 20 years.
Around 400 athletes are expected to make the trip after the "Olyroos" failed to qualify for the football tournament for the first time since 1984. The women's team also missed out.
But chef-de-mission Nick Green said they will not go down without a fight.
"We know we are in for a tough tussle to claim a revered top-five spot with hosts and long-time rivals Britain, the strong European contingent headed by Germany and France, and the ever-present Japanese," said Green.
"But we know, as Aussies, we will never go down without a fight.
"Our athletes have to continue pushing in these final 100 days to give themselves the best chances of Olympic glory and ensure that we will hear Advance Australia Fair playing throughout the London venues."
Australia collected 14 golds at the last Games in Beijing and 46 medals overall, behind powerhouses China and the United States, as well as Russia and Britain.
In London they will again be relying on their swimmers to bolster the medal tally with swimming head coach Leigh Nugent targeting at least a dozen medals from their 44-strong squad led by 100m freestyle world champion James Magnussen.
But the team is without the experience of Ian Thorpe and Michael Klim, who missed selection, and is undergoing a major transition.
"The gap has closed on us... the US are the big challenge, they have dominated swimming for 100 years," Nugent said after the recent trials.
"There are other players who are making it tougher for us to stay in that number two position. The big movers are China and France."
A shift in power back to Britain at this month's track cycling world championships could also hurt Australia's chances of cracking the top five.
Britain won five of the 10 Olympic events at the Melbourne world titles a fortnight ago, while Australia took just three.
"Although the cycling may level itself out, we anticipate we can make some gains in other sports at the same time," said Green.
"Top five, absolutely. We don't need to re-adjust that. I think top five is the respectful and rightful position for Australia to aspire to."
The Olympics open on July 27.

2012 Olympic organisers urged to support sustainable merchandise push

The organisers of the London Olympics have been urged to work with the licensed manufacturers of official merchandise to make sure they have clear and transparent ethical production policies.

As of September 2011 about 3,500 individual product lines out of an expected 10,000 were already on sale, ranging from metal pin badges and keyrings to sportswear, bags, towels and train sets – many featuring the Wenlock and Mandeville mascots and official logos.

A report called Sustainably Sourced? analyses the work done by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Locog) to implement sustainable merchandising policies, in line with the commitment to host the "greenest" Olympic Games ever.

It is published by the Commission for Sustainable London 2012, which was set up to monitor the sustainability of the London 2012 programme.

london olympic 2012

With retail sales expected to be in the region of £1bn, merchandise is a significant part of Locog's revenue generation. It expects to have 50-60 licensees – all major companies awarded the rights to produce a range of products carrying the London 2012, Team GB or Paralympics GB brands.

The commission is recommending that Locog works with these licensees to showcase improvements to sustainability, particularly given consumer concerns over T-shirts and sportswear produced in overseas sweatshops.

There are also concerns that, at a difficult time for the British manufacturing industry, the lion's share of the merchandise is being produced overseas. The bulk is being produced in China and Turkey with less than 10% bearing the hallmark "Made in the UK". Locog has justified this by pointing out that the majority of the licensees are British.

The report commends Locog's sustainable merchandising efforts as "to date, the best the Olympics and Paralympics have ever seen. Locog is setting new standards for the event and retail industries to follow."

But it goes on: "Traditionally, many of the industries involved in making merchandise have not sought to significantly address sustainability in their products and supply chain.

"Therefore, we recommend that a series of case studies be developed using examples from London 2012 merchandise to help move these industries forward. These should demonstrate successes in areas such as ethical supply and environmental standards."

It singles out clothing giant Adidas for having a transparent policy on sourcing, but stops short of naming and shaming companies it believes have fallen short of this high standard.

In a statement the commission said: "We have not had access to a comprehensive audit of environmental and ethical performance for each product, so it is not appropriate for us to comment on individual sponsors, retailers or licensees in this instance.

"Only Adidas has disclosed the location of all factories in its direct supply chain. This sets an example to the industry and the commission believes more partners and licensees should follow Adidas's lead and disclose their factory locations."

Elsewhere in the report, the commission also urges Locog to "better communicate" its sustainability standards to shoppers. "While Locog's efforts to make its merchandise more sustainable have been excellent, consumers may not realise this when they purchase products," it said.

"For example, when a customer buys a product, it should be possible to tell them more about the sustainability story of that product."

Shaun McCarthy, chair of the commission, said: "We recognise there are some sustainability issues which Locog can't solve on its own. However, we believe that by fully engaging with Locog's sustainable and ethical sourcing codes, London 2012 licensees can adopt more sustainable behaviour on a permanent basis."

A spokesperson for Locog said: "We welcome the commission's review of our merchandising and we are delighted our efforts to date are described as the best the Olympics and Paralympics have ever seen. We will now look closely at the commission's recommendations over the coming months."

LONDON 2012: Freeland stars again as GB slump to defeat against Croatia

GREAT Britain staged a brave but unsuccessful fightback as they went down to Croatia at the London 2012 basketball test event.

KEY ROLE: Joel Freeland was the star man for Chris Finch's GB team - top scoring with 22 points (British Basketball)

KEY ROLE: Joel Freeland was the star man for Chris Finch's GB team - top scoring with 22 points (British Basketball)

British coach Chris Finch was delighted as they made a storming start to race into a double digit lead but they were soon pegged back by a team placed 37 places above them in the rankings.

Croatia then established control but the hosts' fighting spirit was evident as they rallied from an 18 point deficit to lose by just five points - 75-70 - at the buzzer.

Joel Freeland continued to look good for Finch's side, leading the scoring with 22 points, while Mike Lenzly and Andrew Lawrence added eight and ten points respectively.

Great Britain converted 82 percent from the free throw line but the difference between the teams was from the three point range, where they missed rested sharp shooter Nate Reinking, hitting just four from 23 attempts.

“I think we came out hot in the first quarter, second and third weren’t too good but we definitely showed we can compete in the fourth," said Freeland, who also impressed in their defeat against France on Tuesday.

“We brought it back in the final period, and it’s not easy to do that against world class teams.

"It was definitely better than yesterday. We’re learning all the time, we’ve only been together for two weeks and we have another two weeks to get better. We’re learning, and that’s what we’re here to do.”

Elsewhere, China’s woes had continued as they suffered a 87-53 hammering against Serbia, Great Britain's next opponents on Wednesday.

Milos Teodosic led the Serbs with 19 points, three rebounds and four assists in a team-high 21 minutes, while NBA big man Jianlian Yi finished with 20 points and seven boards to lead all scorers for the Chinese.

France and Australia served up a much better game, with the former winning a thrilling 71-67 contest, inspired by San Antonio star Tony Parker's 27 point haul.

London 2012 Olympics: Power and the glory spurring on Aaron Cook

Aaron Cook believes he can go from watching Power Rangers as a youngster to taking his place on the Olympic podium, despite splitting from the British squad set-up.

The 20-year-old competed at his first Games in 2008 but lost out in controversial circumstances to Zhu Guo of China for a bronze medal.

That has only increased his  determination to go and win gold in London next year. But, as Cook reveals, his rise to sporting success stems from an unlikely source.

The Dorchester-born athlete watched Power Rangers as a child, leading his parents to take him to a local taekwondo club which was opening in his home town.

‘It could easily have been karate or judo, it just so happened to be that the taekwondo guy put a flyer through our letterbox,’ admits Cook after appearing as a life-size Power Ranger at the Westfield shopping centre in West London.

‘But that programme is the reason why I got into the sport – I just wanted to do what they did, be an “action man”. It’s amazing that they’ve done this for me now because I’m a big fan.

‘To be dressed as one for them was amazing! It’s pretty cool to be known as the Power Ranger of taekwondo now – maybe they can get me a job when I’ve finished competing!’

Behind all the fun, though, there is a tough challenge ahead of Cook, who last month quit the British squad set-up to go it alone ahead of the Olympics.

The single-minded youngster,  now based in Manchester, made the decision following an earlier-than-expected exit from the world championships in South Korea.

Having crashed out in round two, Cook considered his options going into the biggest year of his life and opted to train with his own coach at the gym he has in his back garden.

Cook said: ‘I’m still on track, I’m still good enough, I’m just doing my own thing. This way I’ll get better sparring partners and do more competitions.

‘I’ve always wanted to have my own team, as boxers do, and I feel I can go and win the gold medal in London but sometimes you have to do things the hard way.

‘We parted on good terms but their way does not work for everyone.’

He added: ‘It was a tremendous disappointment at the worlds but I had to go back to the drawing board after that and it’s now about qualifying for London.

‘It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity but I have to keep my head down and focus now.

‘I’m training on my own at home at times and that can be lonely.

‘But I have friends all over the world I can go and train with and spar with, and that is what I plan  to do.

London 2012: Ten best of the web

Twitter guidelines for athletes; Olympic Stadium controversy and a new tune at the All England Club

385 days to go: Here are 10 of the best pieces of London 2012 Olympics content on the web this week:

1. The 'second chance' ticket round

The much anticipated "second chance" ticket round closed on Sunday, with a further 750,000 tickets sold to 150,000 applicants who had not obtained any tickets in the opening ballot. During the first two frantic hours of the second ballot, there was such a high demand for the 40,000 remaining athletics tickets on the official website that a minority were wrongly led to believe that they had been successful in their application.

2. High praise

The International Olympic Committee president, Jacques Rogge, praised London's "faultless" ticketing process and the "amazing" ticket sales. The three-times gold medallist Bradley Wiggins, by contrast, described the process as "a shambles".

3. Insufficient interest in the beautiful game?

It might be our national sport but it appears few people are desperate to see football at the Olympics next summer. There are still 1.5m tickets available for the men's and women's footballthe third round of sales began on Friday morning at 6am – and it is one of only three events that has yet to sell out, the other two being volleyball and freestyle wrestling. That fact alone, however, is a little misleading: after all, football is played in larger venues and hence more tickets were available to start with. In fact, football accounts for more than 2.5m of the 8.8m Olympic tickets produced in total.

4. More controversy over the Olympic Stadium

There is fresh controversy surrounding the Olympic Park Legacy Company's awarding of the Olympic Stadium to West Ham rather than Tottenham Hotspur, after it emerged that an employee, Dionne Knight, had been undertaking paid consultancy work for West Ham. The dispute between the two London clubs looks set to continue, with West Ham planning to take legal action against Spurs and the Sunday Times.

5. Equestrian site has the wow factor

A competition featuring 40 riders got under way at Greenwich Park, south-east London on Monday. It is the first large-scale event in the test series preparing sites for the Games. Despite recent protests against using the world heritage site for the Olympics, the test event drew praise from William Fox-Pitt who said the site had the "wow" factor, adding: "The surface was fantastic, better than anywhere we've seen. It was fantastic to ride on." But other eventers criticised the arena as "dead" and "nowhere near good enough".

6. Tweet away!

The IOC has published guidelines for athletes wanting to blog and post on Twitter during the Games. Postings ought to be "first-person, diary-type" entries, "dignified and in good taste" and "not contain vulgar or obscene words or images".

And so to the tweet of the week: "No!!! I just tore my lucky undies!! :( and I need them today! Have a KILLER track session. 400m 300m 200m flat out. Now what!?" – The South African paralympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius finds himself in a spot of bother.

7. A new tune at the All England Club

Locog, the 2012 Olympic organising committee, wants the tennis staged at SW19 to have a contrasting atmosphere to the 2012 Wimbledon Championships, which will have finished 20 days earlier. The organisers are eager to make the event a more rousing affair, with athletes coming on court to songs of their choice. Goodbye strawberries and cream. Hello Queen and Tina Turner.

8. Good week/bad week

It was a good week for British rowing as four of the crews hoping to win gold at 2012 won against fierce opposition at the Henley Regatta. The highlight was a record-breaking victory for the men's four against the USA, beating them by two-and-a-half strokes.

It was a bad week for Great Britain's women's hockey team, as they finished fifth in the Champions Trophy in Amsterdam. Great Britain had been hoping to build on their bronze medal in the competition last year, but were unable to replicate their achievements.

9. Spinnin' for 2012

Spinnin' for 2012, produced by Tinchy Stryder and Dionne Bromfield, is the first song released in association with the Games and will provide the soundtrack to the Olympic flame's 8,000-mile journey around the UK.

2012 London Olympics torch revealed

The torch for the 2012 London Olympics has been revealed, a golden aluminum tube featuring a lace-like mesh with 8,000 holes that represent the number of bearers and how many miles it will travel in the 70-day relay across Britain.

The triangular shape of the torch symbolizes the three times the British capital will have staged the Summer Olympics, after the 1908 and 1948 London Games.

The flame is set to arrive from Greece on May 18, 2012. It will be used to light the cauldron at the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium on July 27, 2012.

Designed by a London-based studio headed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, the torch was presented on Wednesday.

London 2012 Celebrates 500 Days To Go As Tickets Go On Sale

London 2012 began its 500-days-to-go celebrations yesterday with the unveiling of the OMEGA countdown clock in Trafalgar Square. As official timekeeper for the London 2012 Games, OMEGA has provided a large countdown clock that will allow Londoners to see the days, hours, minutes and seconds until London’s big day on 27 July 2012 – the day of the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. In addition, Olympic tickets have also gone on sale around the world, with sports and Olympic fans now able to apply to see the world’s best athletes compete at the Games.

London 2012

The Greatest Tickets on Earth

Described by London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) Chairman Sebastian Coe as the “greatest tickets on earth”, now is your chance to apply for tickets to the London 2012 Olympic Games. UK and residents of designated European countries can apply through London 2012’s ticketing website at any time during the 42-day application period. It is not a first-come, first-served system within the UK, so take your time and decide which events you want to try and attend with your family and friends. Fans living outside the UK (including in the designated European countries) will be able to apply for tickets through their local National Olympic Committee (NOC) and/or its Authorised Ticket Reseller (ATR). Sales processes may vary according to territory, so fans are encouraged to contact their NOC and/or local ATR for more details. We are proud to work with Worldwide TOP Partner Visa as the exclusive payment services provider.
Be There

Summing up what fans can expect in 2012, LOCOG Chairman Coe said, “London will be a fantastic place to be in the summer of 2012, with a unique atmosphere, and we look forward to welcoming the world to our city and to the UK. There is a huge range of tickets available, to see the best athletes in the world competing. My message is simple – be there.”
Counting Down

The OMEGA countdown clock was unveiled by four Olympic gold medallists from Team GB - rowers Pete Reed and Andy Hodge and sailors Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson. It stands 6.5 metres high, is 5 metres long and weighs around 4 tonnes. Its design reflects the look of the Games, with the beams of light on the clock being inspired by London and its connection with the Meridian Line in Greenwich, the home of time. The final countdown has now well and truly begun for those athletes looking to be at the London Games in 500 days’ time.
LONDON 2012

London was elected as the host city for the Games of the XXX Olympiad on 6 July 2005 at the 117th IOC Session in Singapore. London eventually succeeded in the fourth round of voting, taking 54 votes from a possible 104. London faced stiff opposition during the vote from the other four candidate cities: Paris, New York, Moscow and Madrid. There will be 26 sports on the Olympic programme in London in 2012 and around 10,500 athletes.

London 2012 Olympic venues to stage test events this summer

Spectators will get their first taste of sport in the new 2012 Olympic venues this summer at test events including beach volleyball at Horse Guards Parade and basketball in the Olympic Park, London organisers have revealed.

A comprehensive 12-month testing programme will cover 42 events across 26 venues and involving 8,000 athletes from more than 50 countries. Not all of the events will be open to the public, depending on the emphasis of the tests.

A total of 150,000 tickets costing between £5 and £35 will be on sale across several events, though others such as the London–Surrey Cycle Classic to test the road race route will be free.

Tickets for the equestrian test events at Greenwich Park will be given away to local residents. Altogether, a total of 250,000 spectators are expected to see events in the so-called "London Prepares Series".

2012 London Olympic "This is a dress rehearsal for us but the public, of course, will see the rehearsal not the dress. It will look and feel quite different," London 2012's chief executive, Paul Deighton, said. "We don't expect to get everything absolutely right. If we did I wouldn't be happy because we wouldn't be stress-testing things properly. We will learn from our mistakes and make changes."

The series takes in events organised and ticketed by the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Locog), such as the mountain biking at Hadleigh Farm for which there will be 5,000 tickets available in July, and others, such as the Badminton World Championships at Wembley Arena in August, that it will not organise but will help to staff and operate.

The test events are grouped into three "clusters". The first, in July and August this year, predominantly take place at venues away from the Park. The exceptions are the BMX and basketball events on the Olympic Park, for which spectators will be bussed in to what will still be a construction site.

Locog will build reduced versions of the temporary grandstands that will be used for the Games at the showjumping arena in Greenwich Park and the beach volleyball venue at Horse Guards Parade.

The second cluster of events, from November to January next year, will include events at the aquatics centre and the velodrome, while the third cluster in April and May 2012 will test the rest of the Olympic Park venues including the athletics stadium.

Deighton said the events would be used to test technology, security, ticketing, crowd flows and logistical considerations surrounding the individual sports themselves. Modern pentathlon, for example, has recently switched to laser shooting in place of the traditional air rifles and will need to be rigorously tested in situ at Greenwich Park.

Deighton and Locog's head of sport, Debbie Jevans, said lessons had been learned about the staging of events from Beijing and about city-wide logistics from the Vancouver Winter Games.

In Vancouver in 2010, organisers came under fire for the Own the Podium programme that attempted to maximise home advantage by restricting access to rival teams.

Asked whether London organisers risked going the other way by inviting top-class athletes to compete in Games-time conditions at new 2012 venues, Jevans said: "We have worked closely with the BOA but also with international federations to allow them access. We have to be open but we also have to get ready to deliver these Games."

Deighton also confirmed that those who did not get all the tickets they applied for in the first phase of applications, which closed on 26 April, would be offered the chance to buy other tickets in July. Those who didn't apply in the first phase won't be able to do so until late this year.Tickets for the test events will be sold through Ticketmaster from 26 May.

The four ticketed London 2012 test events this summer are

Mountain bike 31 July, Hadleigh Farm, Essex

Beach volleyball 9-14 August, Horse Guards Parade

Basketball 16-21 August, Basketball Arena, Olympic Park

BMX 19-20 August, BMX Track, Olympic Park

Other London 2012 venue ticketed events include

Gymnastics (artistic, rhythmic and trampoline) 10-18 January 2012, North Greenwich Arena

Cycling (track) 17-19 February 2012, Velodrome, Olympic Park

Aquatics (diving) 20-26 February 2012, Aquatics Centre, Olympic Park

Aquatics (synchronised swimming) 18-22 April 2012, Aquatics Centre, Olympic Park

Hockey 2-6 May 2012, Hockey Centre, Olympic Park

Wheelchair tennis 2-6 May 2012, Eton Manor, Olympic Park

Water polo 3-6 May 2012, Aquatics Centre, Olympic Park

Athletics 4-7 May 2012, Olympic Stadium

Paralympic athletics 8 May 2012, Olympic Stadium

Ticketing arrangements for these events will be announced later this year

London 2012 - Mixed sailing debuts as 2016 events decided

The 2016 Olympics will see mixed sailing make its Games debut after the ISF announced the 10 events that will take to the water in Brazil.

After a meeting in St Petersburg the ISAF Council announced that a two-person mixed multihull event will be included in 2016.

But arguably the biggest impacting change for the Great Britain sailors comes with the culling of the Star keelboat class, an event GB has dominated in recent years.

London 2012 Olympics Great Britain's Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson won gold in the Star event at the 2008 Games but next year's 2012 Olympic will be their final chance to top the podium in the class.

The Elliott class - making its debut next year in London - has also been cut from the Olympic schedule meaning there will be no keelboat events in Rio.

The women's skiff has also been added to the schedule, a decision received with mixed feelings by John Derbyshire, the Royal Yachting Association's racing manager and performance director.

"The RYA is supportive of the slate of events agreed by ISAF Council, which shows progression within the sport and a clear pathway now, particularly for girls transitioning from the youth classes into Olympic campaigning," said Derbyshire.

"It's disappointing in some ways to be losing an old friend with the removal of the Star class, which has been a fixture in Olympic sailing since 1932, and that Women's Match Racing has not proved as successful as hoped.

"The mood of the meeting clearly showed, though, that the retention of the keelboat events is not the right thing for the future growth and appeal of the sport in Olympic terms right now, and that the events chosen reflect more the mass participation of young sailors within sailing, and the RYA supports those views."

London 2012 Olympic Games Tickets

Frequently asked questions about London Olympics 2012 Tickets

london olympic ticketsThe sale of tickets for the London Olympics is going to begin on March 15, 20ll.  As you would be having plenty of queries, we have tried our best to answer the most frequently asked questions.

How do I get the tickets for the London 2012 Olympics?

Oh, that is very simple.  You just need to visit the website of London 2012 Olympics and need to place your request.  You would be joining the good two million who have already placed their request.  Good luck.

Would I get the tickets for London Olympics only when the actual ticket sales start?

Well, not really.  The basic idea of asking you to place your request in the Olympic website is that you must receive all the information pertaining to purchase of tickets.  You would also know how you would be receiving the tickets, whom to contact to receive the tickets and how the tickets would be reaching you.  The main advantage of placing your request is that you do not have to re-enter all your details.  So, do not worry and just relax.

What is the actual date for the London Olympics ticket sale?

The actual date for the ticket sale is March 15, 2011.

Would I be able to buy the London Olympics tickets on the same day itself?

Well, the answer is No.  You would not be able to buy the ticket on the same opening day itself as it is not a case of first come and first served.  But, you do not have to worry as the application process would be open for a good six weeks till the date of April 26.  You can apply for your tickets any time during the six weeks.  It really does not matter whether you are applying on the first day or the last day.

What would be the maximum number of tickets for London Olympics that I can Purchase?

Plenty of information regarding the maximum number tickets to be purchased will be made known to you before the opening date of March 15, 2011.  Probably, the most important sessions which are also hugely popular may have some limits on the number of tickets you can buy.  But, the actual information would be conveyed to you.

What is clearly known at this stage is that there would be more than eight million tickets available for the Olympic Games.  So, you do not have to worry about the availability of tickets.

Furthermore, you would be happy to note that a good seventy five percent of the total tickets are allotted for the public through the application procedure.  The rest which comprises twenty five percent of the remaining total tickets is reserved for sponsors, those individuals who would be providing funds to hold the Olympic Games and for all the sports enthusiasts throughout the world.  The Olympic committee would look after the global ticket sales.

What would be the cost of tickets for London 2012 Olympics?

Well, it really depends upon the events you want to witness.  The most popular sport sessions would definitely be more expensive.  For instance, the cost of tickets for the one hundred meters race final is expected to cross seven hundred pounds.  On the other hand, there are sporting sessions which begin at an affordable cost of twenty pounds.

You would be delighted to know that there are going to be good six hundred and forty nine sports sessions.  The various disciplines of sports are also going to be thirty nine.  Therefore, the prices of tickets are widely going to vary.  It has been estimated that a good ninety percent of the tickets would be less than one hundred pounds.  The organizers are trying their level best to place two thirds of the tickets below fifty pounds.  The remaining twenty five percent would be placed at an affordable twenty pounds or less.  So, do not worry as you will get to see a lot of sporting action.

There is a special discount. For more than a whopping two hundred sporting sessions, the children below the age of sixteen, just need to pay the money equivalent to their age.  What more, even the elders above the age of sixty needs to pay only sixteen pounds for the same events.

Individuals can also expect a good discount on their tickets for events like triathlon, road cycling and the marathon.

How do you define a session?

A session actually includes many events.  For example, if you chose to buy a ticket for seeing the swimming session, you would be able to see all the races and heats under that swimming session.

Am I allowed to pay through debit card or cash for the Olympic tickets?

Along with checks and cash, the organizers of the Olympics have decided to accept payments made only through Visa cards.  It may be in the form of prepaid, credit or debit.  This is mainly due to the huge support provided by Visa.

What if I do not have a Visa Card?

As mentioned above, you can also pay through checks and cash.  But, once you reach the Olympic sports venue, you are allowed to pay only through cash or Visa card.

How much time would it take for the sports schedule to be announced?

It is expected to be announced around February 2011.

Would there be any free sports events?

Yes, sure. You do not have to buy tickets for events like road cycling and marathon as these are free to watch.  Again, it depends upon the crowd as a very huge crowd may attract tickets.

Are there any good places outside London in case I am not able to go to London?

Oh, sure. There are plenty of places outside London where the Olympic events are scheduled to take place.  You may visit these wonderful places.  The tickets for these events will be available from March 15, 2011.

For more information regarding tickets, you may go through the London 2012 Olympics website.

London Olympic Stadium – Unique Design

London Olympic Stadium Construction – Architectural Marvel

With the London 2012 Olympics promising to be one of the most spectacular events ever, the organizers are planning to build a Olympic stadium which would be one of the most unique, modern and large stadiums in the world.  In fact, the Olympic stadium promises to be one of the major attractions of the London 2012 Olympics.  The stadium is proposed to be built at the Lower Lea Valley in Stratford.  The location chosen at Stratford is Marshgate Lane.

london olympic stadium designYou would be amazed to note that the capacity of the Olympic Stadium would be a massive eighty thousand.  This would also make it the third largest and one of the most modern in Britain.  As already known, the Wembley stadium is the largest in Britain.  What is most unique about the Olympics Stadium design is that the huge capacity of eighty thousand can be greatly and easily reduced to twenty five thousand after the Olympic Games are over.  This is definitely an architectural marvel.

Although, the Olympic Stadium is made up of layers, many of them are temporary.  The method of constructing the Olympic Stadium has been formulated intelligently based on the principle of cut and fill.  Under this approach, the land is dug deep till it assumes the shape of a bowl, which would be easily able to accommodate twenty five thousand permanent seats.  In other words, this bowl structure forms the permanent part of the Olympic Stadium.  The architects have also planned to build a temporary structure above the permanent structure which would accommodate a good fifty five thousand individuals.

You should also note that the track and field part of the Olympic Stadium is being laid around the permanent structure.  This has been done mainly by excavating the soft clay from the earth.  The whole job is being done by using rakers made of concrete.  The ground over there has got a natural slope and the architects have taken full advantage of this aspect to incorporate this in to the Olympic Stadium design.  The changing rooms and warm-up areas are also being planned to be built in the basement region.  The upper temporary structure is made of lightweight steel and concrete which is demountable, in order to accommodate fifty five thousand spectators.  This work is going on at a brisk pace.

It has been decided that the temporary structure of the Olympic Stadium would be made using fabric which is lightweight.  The entire roof of the Olympic Stadium is going to be made out of fabric and would be based on the principles of engineering, governing a bicycle wheel.  The roof, although made from fabric would be strong enough to hold all the lights installed for the various sporting events and ceremonies.

The Olympic stadium is being built using state of the art technology since it is going to play host to millions of fans watching the sports events on their television, thousands of spectators who would be attending the games, the press from the world over, the various heads of states and some of the world’s greatest sportsmen.  The key feature of this wonderful modern stadium is that once the Olympic Games are over, this stadium can be used for local and domestic purpose.  This is one of the main objectives behind the unique spectacular design of the Olympic Stadium.
